    Vehicle body builders manufacture and repair the external bodies of vehicles, including cars, buses, trucks, fire engines and caravans.

    Work is in garages, workshops or manufacturing plants. The work environment may be noisy and polluted; protective gear may be needed.

    Day-to-day

     

    • construct framework sections in metal, wood, fibreglass and other materials using shaping machines and cutting and welding equipment
    • bolt, screw, rivet and weld sections together to form complete frameworks
    • cut and shape panels of sheet metal, aluminium and reinforced plastic and attach to frameworks using hand and power tools
    • modify assembly line vehicles to special requirements.
